Welcome to Mogu Mogu Kyoto – A Culinary Gem in the Heart of Kyoto

When wandering the historic streets of Kyoto, it's easy to get lost in the maze of traditional architecture and serene temples, but make sure to carve out time for an extraordinary culinary experience at Mogu Mogu Kyoto. This charming café isn’t just a place to grab a bite; it’s a celebration of warmth, creativity, and the joy of food.

At Mogu Mogu, the atmosphere is as inviting as the dishes are delectable. Upon entering, you're greeted by the effervescent Emily and her family, whose genuine smiles and lively spirits infuse the space with positive energy. With options to sit upstairs for a cozy escape, on the tatami for a traditional experience, or outside to soak in the Kyoto ambiance, every dining choice feels intentional.

Prepare your taste buds for a delightful journey through meticulously prepared Japanese comfort food. Their Super Hiro and the Chicken Karaage Rice are standout dishes, as praised by delighted patrons like Hong Yeow Tan and Sam Tisbury. Imagine digging into succulent bites of fried chicken that are golden and crispy on the outside, yet tender and flavorful on the inside, all perfectly paired with a fluffy bed of rice. Coupled with the rich Pork Shoulder Steak on Rice, your taste experience will be nothing short of unforgettable.

Every meal served at Mogu Mogu is a testament to high-quality ingredients and expert preparation, as noted by Mandi Carter, who raved about the café’s ability to elevate everyday flavors into culinary masterpieces. The creative presentations and comforting aromas only enhance the overall dining experience, making it feel both indulgent and homely.

The genuine connection with the owners adds another layer to your visit. You are not just a customer; you’re welcomed into their family. After your meal, feel free to linger—just as Cody Verhees did—sharing stories and laughter with Emily and her partner, making for a truly immersive experience that reaches beyond the plate.

So if you find yourself in Kyoto, take a break from the sightseeing and let Mogu Mogu Kyoto enchant you with its food, hospitality, and ambiance. Truly, this café is more than just a dining spot; it’s a slice of Kyoto’s vibrant culture, waiting to be discovered and cherished.

Fantastic place that I can't recommend enough! I was lucky enough to be able to go on 3 different days on my trip. First of all, the owners are extremely nice and welcoming, Emily has this fantastic positive energy and will welcome you with a smile, so immediately your day will become much brighter,... and that's before the coffee! Inside, you can choose to sit upstairs, on the tatami, outside at the back in the patio, up at front looking out at the street or near the bar. The choice of things on the menu is fantastic, every day I chose something different and it was all delicious! So look no further! Go and try it out!

I had the absolute best lunch at a place I stumbled across wandering the streets of Kyoto. Emily who owns the restaurant with her partner, was lovely, warm and welcoming. The food was fantastic (I had the chicken karaage) at a very reasonable price. I can’t recommend this place enough and will most certainly be back next time I’m in Kyoto!

My wife and I just finished lunch and words cannot describe how unbelievable it was. Delicious, creative, artistic and variety to satisfy any desire. The owner of this family run business are the most friendly people we've met during our trip (and we've met a LOT of friendly people) we talked for 30 minutes after our meal. If you visit Kyoto, you must visit Mogu Mogu!

MOGU MOGU KYOTO Home-Away-From-Home As a first-time traveler from Australia to Japan, I found myself craving healthy, home-cooked Western food with a unique Japanese twist - and at MOGU MOGU KYOTO, I discovered just that! What truly surprised me was the warm welcome from Chef Hiro, his wife Emily, and their daughter Ena, all of whom speak fluent English. This made communication a breeze and alleviated any concerns about navigating the language barrier. MOGU MOGU KYOTO feels like a family restaurant where you are embraced as part of the family. I was impressed by their genuine hospitality and willingness to help. Chef Hiro’s diverse culinary background shines through in the menu, showcasing a variety of international flavors. His experience includes owning a restaurant in Melbourne, and he creatively merges a delightful fusion of Japanese, French and Australian influences with fresh local produce, making it a standout dining experience. In summary, MOGU MOGU KYOTO is a charming gem that beautifully balances traditional Japanese tastes with international flair. It's the perfect spot for both locals and visitors looking for a memorable meal that feels like home. Don’t miss out on this delightful culinary journey!
